Meaning as told by Sri Sathya Sai Baba

The whole creation being the gross projection of Bramham, the Cosmic Consciousness itself; the food too is Bramham, the process of offering it is Bramhan; it is being offered in the fire of Brahman. He who thus sees Brahman is action, reaches Bramham alone.

I, the Supreme Spirit, abiding in the body of living beings as the Fire (Vaiswanara) in their stomach I am associated with their Praana and Apaana, digest the four type of foods (solids, fluids, semi-fluid and liquid) which they eat.

Usually we humans do chanting of this Brahmarpanam Mantra and offer food to God before partaking it.

It is not only true with us humans but also with animals. It is amazing to see how even animals adhere and abide to it's importance  and sanctity.

See this small video of a cute pup religiously following the chanting  of Brahmarpanam Mantra.

This is Jay (small puppy) from Australia. Every day, before his meal, he waits for the Brahmarpanam prayer to be chanted.
