Bhagawan Baba fostered Bhajan singing in the Sai Community. In starting the Prasanthi Mandir Bhajan Group, Bhagawan gave guidelines on how one should practice Bhajans. He said, each Bhajan should be practiced 100 times!
1st - 25th practice: you understand and perfect the musical aspects of the Bhajan (Raaga & Taala).
26th-50th practice: you internalize the complete meaning of the Bhajan (Bhaava)
51st-75th practice: You lose yourself in the Bhajan. The Bhajan becomes a part of you.
76th-100th practice: Bhagawan loses himself in your Bhajan. You become one with Him through the Bhajan being practiced.
Finally, for the 101st time, when the Bhajan is offered in the congregation, anyone who listens or follows your Bhajan will lose themselves in Bhagawan. They will find union in Him.
This is the importance of Bhajan practice! By practicing a Bhajan with due diligence and devotion, a simple Bhajan can be turned into a transformative, spiritually enlightening experience. Let us all follow Bhagawan's guidelines and practice all Bhajans with complete devotion, dedication, and surrender. Then, we will experience oneness with Him through Bhajan.
