Bath Time Mantra (स्नान Mantra)

The Sloka I taught today to my Bal Vikas Class' students is this - Snana Mantra or the Bath Time Mantra

This Shloka has to be chanted while bathing.

This is a Mantra invoking all the Holy Rivers and praying them to bless us with few drops of their Holy waters in our bathing water. This has to be recited while taking your bath:

Sloka in English:

Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva Godavari Saraswati|
Narmade Sindhu Kaveri, Jalesmin Sannidham Kuru||

श्लोक in Hindi:

गंगे च यमुने चैव गोदावरी सरस्वती |

नर्मदे सिंधु कावेरी जलेस्मिन सन्निधम् कुरु ||

Meaning:

Gange - Holy River Ganga
Cha - And
Yamune - Holy River Yamuna
Chaiva - And also
GodavariHoly River Godavari
SaraswatiHoly River Saraswati
NarmadeHoly River Narmada
SindhuHoly River Indus
KaveriHoly River Kaveri
Jalesmin - Holy Waters
Sannidham - Mix
Kuru - process of doing.

Chanting this Sloka with faith and devotion can make our bathing water as pure as the Holy Rivers of India and bless us with the benefits of bathing in them.

Our late grandfather had put a poster of this Sloka in the bathroom in his house. So, when we used to visit our grandparents' home in the vacations, I used to try to read this while bathing.

And infact it is because of this little poster I learnt reading my mother tongue - Telugu. Being born and brought up in New Delhi I never had the opportunity to study my mother tongue as a subject otherwise.
